Trailer vs Truck - Ownership Comparison, Pros & Cons
The last time I purchased a vehicle I asked myself, what are the pros and cons of a trailer vs. a truck? I decided to buy a trailer and electric car and have never looked back. In this video I describe how I've not lost the ability to haul and tow and how much money I've saved on gas, insurance, and acquisition cost.

    I don't think HF even sells the motorcycle adapter anymore. I picked up the bead breaker the other day and I didn't see them in the store and I didn't see it on the website either. I looked at the tire changer because it was actually less expensive than the bead breaker, but it didn't say specifically if it would work for motorcycle tires or not. Glad I decided to go with the bead breaker. I believe '02-'07 Harley touring bikes had 1" axles, but for my 2010 Road King it's 25mm or about .98", so it still wouldn't work for Harley's either.

    |The shinko 705s come in radial or bias ply. Bias ply having the higher weight rating but lower speed rating. Cupping can be postponed by raising tire pressure. The max rating is marked on the tire. The tire pressure marked on the swing arm is for legal reasons. running tires at their max pressure or close to it, prevents tire cupping as well as overheating of the tire and aids in its longevity. Urban Monk, you're videos are excellent and loaded with informative content.

      Thanks for watching and for the kind words. Do you have any concerns about reducing the tire contact patch with higher tire pressures? I was thinking I'd like to try your idea but that popped into my head. I really like the idea of postponing the cupping.

    • @chrisarsenault4005
      @chrisarsenault4005 28 днів тому

      @@UrbanMonkTV Even a half inflated tire has marginally a tad more of a contact patch, which disappears as speed increases. However, it is under braking that the front tire acquires its scalloped shape. Higher pressures limit the carcass flex in the tire which i turn keeps the heat down and prolongs longevity. Like yourself I have several high mileage bikes and a tire mounter and balancer. I've experimented with motorcycle tires for 25 years. Race bikes run lower pressures because they need to keep heat in the tires. Race tires also last hours not miles. Try maxing out your front tire. if its not your thing, go back to what you are used to. I mean a 705 is so cost effective. We could change them out every 10 thousand miles. Only one intake valve was in the center of the specification , all the other valves were at the bottom of the specification, but still in spec. I put the seven valves in the center of the spec by installing smaller shims. Please note, that the 650 has a different cam system to the 1,000. The 650 is much harder to change shims on because on the 650 one has to remove the cam chain tensioners to get the cams out. Putting the cam chain tensioners back in is a real PITA. 2:15 - First thing you want to do is zip tie the clutch handle down. That's how at 4:05 he just pulls the one part off, leaving the actual rod in the system. If you don't pull the clutch in, the clutch fluid is going to spill and leak everywhere and you'll end up having to bleed the system for half an hour.

      @@SlandersPete I didn't tie clutch handle down. It doesn't leak if you don't. It's a closed system.

      @@UrbanMonkTV Hey, one question on the front sprocket. I have a 17tooth sprocket on my 1050XT. I want to change to a 15 tooth sprocket becasue I ride in slow traffic everyday and I need the low low end torque. I don't mind reduced top speed becasue I dont think I want to be doing that anywhere. Do you think the 15 tooth front sprocket will be detrimental to the motorbike in any way?

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV День тому

      @@HLMM_KE Not detrimental at all, other than the engine will average higher rpms, but you said you don't ride top gear high speeds anyway. On the other end of the spectrum...your engine will experience lower load forces at lower rpms and one could argue that would be more gentle to your engine and clutch.

    I have a 2007 vstrom 1000 with 13k miles. Yeah, I don't drive it much. Sometimes with I come to a fast stop, the bike stalls. I was thinking maybe the kickstand is moving enough. I might bypass the kickstand safety switch to see what happens. Another thingy with my bike. After a ride, antifreeze comes out of the black tubes. Any thoughts on both issues ?

    ANY Diesel oil will work in a motorcycle not just Rotella. But you might want to go with FULL SYNTHETIC for less engine wear and cooler engine temps. i’ve used Rotella in my dirtbike with mixed reviews. I now use 100% synthetic maxima Motorcycle oil for best results and incredible speed and durability. You cannot beat a good high-quality Motorcycle oil. Sometimes it’s worth spending the extra money. but then again you’re not RACING your Motorcycle, I am so I need a really really strong high-shear Motorcycle oil

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV Місяць тому

      Thanks for throwing in you insights here. Maybe full synth would be better but to your point I'm not sure I'm stressing the engine to a point where the difference would be material. Also, one thing I love about the first gen V-Stroms is the oil cooler. (They removed for later models.)

    Why not ask Shell if it is 100% conventional or has some synthetic in it?

      One certainly could. Ultimately I'm not concerned with it's components, I'm concerned with the results over long term use in my machine. Thanks for watching.

    I got nasty ol black rusted screws on my toilet seat and I'm having a hard time taking them off. They don't seem to be stripped but definitely tightened to all h3ll.

      Those are probably best cut off with a hacksaw and replaced with nylon bolts and nuts which will not corrode.

      @@nicole_roma You could try soaking the threads with PB Blaster (seriously I didn't make that up) to see if that loosens the corrosion up but sometimes those get too far gone. Then yes, a mini hacksaw or even a grinding wheel on a dremmel could cut the bolts off. You just don't want to damage the porcelain. Kind of tricky. Good luck! The joys of home ownership!

So don´t search for it on other places ... it seems to be still not existent on every version of the DL1000

    Hi Urban Monk! Following your channel for a while now, nice job! I am working on a similar bike, and have a Dutch youtube channel. For now I am considering to convert to lithium for the size of the battery, however that involves lots of extra components to be bought… I like to re use the old parts. Your battery is very small, is it powerful enough to crank using the electric start? Does the mister kortan bike like to start with it?

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! That little AGM battery will start Mr. Kortan just fine once. I tend to use it only when the engine is warm (when the engine fires right away). That said, Mr. Kortan has a kick start so I tend to use that more when the engine is warm or has been run previously that day. When the bike has been sitting cold for a long time I connect a jumper battery before starting because he can be a little stubborn on cold starts like that and I end up cranking the starter longer during those times. Hope that information helps!

    Very informative. I was shocked to hear about your restriction in California. Aren't they pushing to have electric EVERYTHING??? How can they push for that and limit your electrical use at the same time? Seems nuts to me.

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV 2 місяці тому

      Southern California Edison doesn't limit usage, they just make it cost prohibitive to use electricity at peak times of the day. We can use all we want but we have to prepare ourselves for the bill. When I first moved here I had got a bill for $750 for 1 month because I hadn't figured out the rate rules yet and hadn't modified my usage habits. Hope that makes it more clear. Since I made this video I've installed solar on the roof and now SoCal Edison owes me $! Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching! Yes, love mine, though sometimes I wish I enjoyed the fuel economy of the 650. Other times I'm glad I have the power I have. I go back and forth, depending on whether I have my hand on the throttle or the fuel pump handle.

    I was watching the filter change. Could you punch a couple of holes in the front on top of the cover. It looks like it’s 2 chambers. Also if you can punch the holes for more are would the computer adjust the fuel for the extra air?

    • @UrbanMonkTV
      @UrbanMonkTV 2 місяці тому

      It may, but I can't say for certain it would properly adjust fueling across all throttle positions and rpms. Questions are "how large are the holes you suggest punching and too what end?" I suppose. With a power commander fueling can be adjusted to a wider array of configurations in intake and exhaust, but the tuning/mapping still needs to be done. Thanks for watching!
